The pictures kind: a field that points into the media library and promises
its target is a picture — which is what lets a template render an
<img> without checking first. One kind, two shapes:

The shape lives in the data type, not a setting — a template always knows whether it holds a picture or a list. (The systems that make one-or-many a formatting switch teach every template to guess.)
Alt text, title and dimensions live on the library asset, not the field — described once, correct everywhere the image appears.
When not to use it
- A downloadable — the brochure pdf is a File.
- Mixed kinds on purpose — the unconstrained media collection.
- Decoration — an image the DESIGN chose (a background, an icon) belongs to the template or theme, not to a content field an author can change.
